FACTOR ANALYSIS OF AGRONOMIC AND MORPHOLOGICAL TRAITS OF SAFFLOWER GENOTYPES UNDER TWO STRESS AND NON-STRESS CONDITIONS

Abstract

 IN ORDER TO STUDY AND CLASSIFY AGRO-MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERS IN SAFFLOWER GENOTYPES, 15 GENOTYPES WERE EVALUATED. UNDER NON- DROUGHT STRESS AND DROUGHT STRESS CONDITIONS RELATION OF SEED YIELD AND HEAD DIAMETER AND NUMBER OF SEED PER HEAD WERE POSITIVE SIGNIFICANTLY. FACTOR ANALYSIS DETECTED THREE FACTORS WHICH EXPLAINED 79.47 AND 72.23 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL VARIATION IN NON-DROUGHT STRESS AND DROUGHT STRESS CONDITIONS, RESPECTIVELY.IN DROUGHT STRESS CONDITION, THE FIRST FACTOR ASSIGNED 40.24 PERCENT OF TOTAL VARIATION BETWEEN TRAITS AND WAS SIGNIFICANTLY RELATED WITH DAYS TO 50 AND 100% HEADING, 100-SEED WEIGHT AND OIL PERCENTAGE. THEREFORE, THIS FACTOR WAS REGARDED ASEFFECTIVE FACTOR ON DEVELOPMENTAL CHARACTERS AND PRODUCTIVITY OIL. OTHER FACTORS IN DROUGHT STRESS CONDITION ACCOUNTED FOR 22.42 AND 10.57 PERCENT OF VARIATION BETWEEN TRAITS AND WERE ENTITLED MAIN YIELD COMPONENT AND GROWTH CHARACTER, RESPECTIVELY. IN NON-DROUGHT STRESS CONDITION, THE FIRST FACTOR ASSIGNED 29.45 PERCENT OF TOTAL VARIATION BETWEEN TRAITS AND WAS SIGNIFICANTLY RELATED WITH TRAITS NUMBER OF DAYS TO 50 AND 100% HEADING, NUMBER OF BRANCH, 100-SEED WEIGHT AND OIL PERCENTAGE. THIS FACTOR WAS REGARDED AS OIL PRODUCTIVITY FACTOR. OTHER FACTORS IN NON-DROUGHT STRESS CONDITION ACCOUNTED FOR 26.38 AND23.64 PERCENT OF VARIATION BETWEEN TRAITS AND WERE ENTITLED ASGROWTH CHARACTER AND YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS, RESPECTIVELY.
