IMPROVEMENT OF GROUNDWATER CONTRIBUTION MODELING IN A SEMI-ARID REGION

Abstract

 SHALLOW WATER TABLE CONTRIBUTION TO SUPPLY CROP WATER USE MAY BE IMPORTANT PHENOMENON IN ARID AND SEMI-ARID REGIONS. MOREOVER, MODELING CAN BE USED FOR ESTIMATING CAPILLARY RISE FROM SHALLOW WATER TABLE. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO FIND THE BEST REGRESSION MODELING FOR ESTIMATING CAPILLARY RISE OF SOIL PROFILE WITH DIFFERENT WATER TABLE DEPTHS (0.60,0.80 AND 1.10M) UNDER LYSIMETER CONDITION DURING TWO YEARS (2008 AND 2009). TWO MODEL WERE IMPROVED, ONE NAMELY A SIMPLE EQUATION BETWEEN RATIO OF GROUNDWATER CONTRIBUTION TO ACTUAL EVAPOTRANSPIRATION AND THE DEPTH OF WATER TABLE, AND THE OTHER ONE WAS NAMED AS CLASSICAL ASSUMPTIONS OF MULTIPLE REGRESSION WITH THE INDEPENDENT VARIABLES SUCH AS GROWTH DAY, (D), DEPTH OF GROUNDWATER TABLE (DI), AVERAGE DAILY TEMPERATURE (T), DAILY EVAPORATION (E0) AND RELATIVE DAILY HUMIDITY (H). THE RESULTS OF COMPARISON SHOWED VERY GOOD AGREEMENT BETWEEN MEASURED AND THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM MODELS.
