Abstract

BACKGROUND AND AIM: ESCHERICHIA COLI IS A FREQUENT CAUSE OF URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS, AS WELL AS BEING QUIT OFTEN ISOLATED FROM CERVICO-VAGINAL SWABS, HOWEVER, ITS IDENTITY AS PATHOGEN IN THE CERVICO-VAGINAL AREA IS REQUIRED TO BE ASCERTAINED. SOURCE (S) FOR E.COLICOLONZING FEMALE VAGINA IS ELUSIVE AND NEEDED TO BE CONFIRMED, WHETHER IT’S FECAL CONTAMINATION OR FROM URINARY TRACT. IT IS SURPRISING THAT INSPITE OF BEING A FREQUENT VAGINAL COLONIZER AND FREQUENT CAUSE OF NEONATAL SEPSIS, VAGINAL E. COLI IS NEGLECTED. IN THIS STUDY WE AIMED TO PERFORM A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE E. COLI CLINICAL ISOLATES FROM VAGINA VERSUS THOSE FROM URINE IN TERMS OF MOLECULAR PHYLOGENY, MOLECULAR DETERMINANTS OF VIRULENCE AND ANTIMICROBIAL SUSCEPTIBILITY, IN ADDITION, TO COMPARE THEM WITH THE GENOTYPES AND VIRULENCE MARKERS IN ISOLATES CAUSING NEONATAL SEPSIS....
