Abstract

BACKGROUND AND AIM: BRUCELLOSIS IS A WORLDWIDE, SERIOUS PROBLEM. BRUCELLA’S PATHOGEN IS ABLE TO SURVIVE WITHIN PHAGOCYTIC CELLS AND THESE CELLS THEN SPREAD TO THE LYMPH NODES AND REPLACE IN RETICULOENDOTHELIAL SYSTEM. POLYMORPHONUCLEARS (PMNS) ARE ONE OF THE MAJOR DEFENSE MECHANISMS AGAINST INFECTION. BECAUSE OF IMPORTANCE OF PMNS IN INHIBITION OF BRUCELLA INFECTION, THE STUDY OF RESPIRATORY BURST ACTIVITY IN THESE CELLS IS NECESSARY. BECAUSE THE INTRACELLULAR GROWTH OF THE PATHOGEN DEPENDS ON OXIDATIVE PATHWAY OF NEUTROPHILS.
