Abstract

INTRODUCTION: CANDIDA ENDOCARDITIS IS A RARE INFECTION THAT USUALLY CAUSED BY NON-ALBICANS SPECIES. THIS INFECTION OCCURS IN INDIVIDUALS WITH IMPAIRED IMMUNITY, ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY, PATIENTS WITH OPEN HEART SURGERY, MITRAL OR AORTIC REPLACEMENT WITH PROSTHETIC VALVE, A HISTORY OF INTRAVENOUS DRUG USERS AND AFFECTING PATIENTS OF RISK FOR INVASIVE FUNGAL INFECTIONS. CE IS ACCOUTNTING FOR LESS THN 2% OF ALL INFECTIVE ENDOCARDITIS CASES. CANDIDA ALBICANS, PARAPSIHOSIS, TROPICALIS, GILLIERMONDI AND GLABRATA ARE MOSTLY ISOLATED FROM CANDIDA ENDOCARDITIS. RECENTLY, A NEW SPECIES, CANDIDA DUBLINEINSIS WAS IDENTIFIED FROM BLOOD CUTURE AND ORAL CAVITY OF HIV-INFECTED INDIVIDUALS AND ENDOCARDITIS. AS C DUBLINIENSIS VERY CLOSELY RELATED TO C ALBICANS, IT IS OFTEN DIFFICULT TO DISCRIMINATE BETWEEN THE TOW SPECIES. THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY IS TO OUTLINE, USEFUL AND RAPID TECHNIQUE TO IDENTIFIY C DUBLINIENSIS OF C ALBICANS. METHOD AND MATERIALS: REAL TIME PCR IS THE BEST METHOD FOR DISTINGUISHED C DUBLINIENSIS FROM C ALBICANS.
