Abstract

INTRODUCTION: DKK1 GENE ENCODES A PROTEIN THAT IS A MEMBER OF THE DICKKOPF FAMILY. DKK1 AS A SOLUBLE INHIBITOR WNT/BETA-CATENIN SIGNALING IS REQUIRED FOR EMBRYONIC HEAD DEVELOPMENT, AND REGULATES WNT SIGNALING BY BINDING TO THE RECEPTOR LIPOPROTEIN –RELATED PROTEIN-5 (LRP5) /ARROW. DKK1 ENSURES TRUE DEVELOPMENT OF SKELETAL SYSTEM, MAINTAINS SKELETAL HOMEOSTASIS, AND NEUTRALIZES WNT SIGNALING PATHWAY EFFECTS ON SKELETAL DIFFERENTIATION AND LIPOGENESIS. THEREFORE THE PROTEIN NOT ONLY PREVENTS FORMATION OF SKELETAL TISSUE BUT ALSO STIMULATES SKELETAL REABSORPTION...
