EFFECT OF EIGHT WEEKS OF DNS EXERCISE ON FATIGUE AND BALANCE IN WOMAN WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (MS)

Abstract

 INTRODUCTION: THIS DISEASE IS THE CHRONIC AND DEBILITATING DISEASE OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM, IN WHICH THE MYELIN OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM (BRAIN AND SPINAL CORD) IS DAMAGED. USE OF NONPHARMACOLOGICAL METHODS THAT CAN BE USED AS AN ADJUNCT THERAPY COULD POTENTIALLY HELP THESE PATIENTS (1). THE AIM OF THIS STUDY IS TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECT OF EIGHT WEEKS OF DNS EXERCISE ON FATIGUE, QUALITY OF LIFE AND FUNCTION IN WOMAN WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (MS).METHODOLOGY: PATIENTS WITH MS, 23 TO 58 YEARS, WITH EDSS SCORES OF 0 - 5.5, WHO HAD REFERRED TO REHABILITATION CLINIC AND THE MS SOCIETY OF IRAN IN TEHRAN, FORMED THE STATISTICAL POPULATION OF THIS STUDY. SUBJECTS OF THE STUDY WERE 30 PATIENTS WHO WERE RANDOMLY CHOSEN AND ALWAYS AVAILABLE AND WERE DIVIDED IN TO TWO EXPERIMENTAL (N=15) AND CONTROL (N=15) GROUPS. THE EXPERIMENTAL GROUP PERFORMED DNS EXERCISE FOR EIGHT WEEKS (3 TIMES A WEEK) AND THE CONTROL GROUP PERFORMED THEIR ROUTINE ACTIVITIES. DNS THERAPY IS BASED ACCURATE ASSESSMENT OF QUALITY STABILITY OR MOVEMENT WITH THE AIM OF RESTORING AND INTEGRATED SPINAL STABILIZATION SYSTEM THROUGH THE SPECIFIC FUNCTIONAL EXERCISES ACCORDING TO THE POSITION OF MOTOR DEVELOPMENT HEALTHY NEONATES) 2 (. FATIGUE SEVERITY SCALE QUESTIONNAIRE (FSS-36) (RAY, 2013 #23) WAS USED TO EVALUATE FATIGUE AND FSST TEST WAS USED TO MEASURE THE BALANCE. FOR STATISTICAL ANALYSIS DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS AND FOR TESTING HYPOTHESES MANN-WHITNEY TEST AND TO INVESTIGATE CHANGES IN THE GROUPWILCOXON TEST AT SIGNIFICANCE LEVEL OF LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO 0.05(0.05≥ɑ) WERE USED.RESULTS: THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT AFTER EIGHT WEEKS OF DNS EXERCISE, IN FATIGUE BETWEEN BOTH EXPERIMENTAL (-16.3) AND CONTROL (-8.06) GROUPS THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE (P=0.007), AND ALSO IN BALANCE BETWEEN BOTH EXPERIMENTAL (-4.2) AND CONTROL (6.8) GROUPS THERE IS SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE (P=0.000).DISCUSSION: THE RESULTS OF THIS STUDY SHOWED THAT EIGHT WEEKS OF TRAINING, DNS ON FATIGUE AND BALANCE IN WOMEN WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS WAS EFFECTIVE AND THERAPISTS CAN USE THIS LOW-COST AND LOW-RISK THERAPY AS A COMPLEMENTARY TREATMENT FOR PATIENTS MS.
