Abstract

 HEAVY METALS ARE TOXIC AND HAZARDOUS POLLUTANTS IN THE ENVIRONMENT DUE TO THEIR NON-BIODEGRADABILITY AND PERSISTENCE WHICH CAN CAUSE SERIOUS THREAT TO LIVING ORGANISMS, FOR EXAMPLE, THE ACCUMULATION OF LEAD IN THE HUMAN BODY EXHIBITS SEVERE DELETERIOUS EFFECTS ON NEUROBEHAVIORAL DEVELOPMENT IN CHILDREN, INCREASES BLOOD PRESSURE, AND CAUSES KIDNEYINJURY AND ANEMIA. IN THIS PAPER, WE REPORTED AN ION SELECTIVE ELECTRODE FOR THE DETERMINATION OF LEAD ION BASED ON 1-HEXYL 3-METHYLIMIDAZOLIUM HEXAFLUOROPHOSPHATE AS A NEW CARRIER (IONOPHORE). THE PROPOSED SENSOR REVEALED IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTICS SUCH AS HIGH SELECTIVITY, LOW DETECTION LIMIT, LOW COST, WIDE CONCENTRATION RANGE, LOW DETECTION LIMIT, FAST RESPONSE TIME AND NERNSTIAN RESPONSE. IN THE PRESENT WORK, WE USED THIS SENSOR AS INDICATOR ELECTRODE FOR THE DETERMINATION OF PB (II) ION IN URMIA AND MIYANDOAB WATER SAMPLES. THE OBTAINED RESULTS SHOWED GOOD AGREEMENT WITH DATA FROM ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROSCOPY.
