Abstract

 INTRODUCTION: VISCOSITY IS AN IMPORTANT TRANSPORT PROPERTY FOR PROCESS DESIGN IN PETROLEUM, PETROCHEMICAL, CHEMICAL AND OTHER CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES INVOLVING FLUID TRANSPORTATION, MIXING, AGITATION, AND ETC.THE ESTIMATION OF VISCOSITY OF A MIXTURE IS MORE DIFFICULT THAN THAT OF THE PURE COMPOUND. THE PREDICTION OF VISCOSITY OF LIQUID MIXTURES IS A GOAL OF LONG STANDING WITH BOTH EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL IMPORTANCE [1]. IN THIS RESEARCH, VISCOSITY OF DIMETHYL CARBONATE+1-OCTANOL WAS DETERMINED AT TEMPERATURES OF 293.15, 303.15, 313.15 AND 323.15 K. FROM THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA, EXCESS VISCOSITY IS CALCULATED AND DIFFERENT MODELS WERE APPLIED TO PREDICT THE VISCOSITY OF MIXTURES AT T=293.15 K.
