Abstract

 INTRODUCTION: ACID SOLUTIONS ARE WIDELY USED IN INDUSTRY, SOME OF THE IMPORTANT FIELDS OF APPLICATION BEING ACID PICKLING OF IRON AND STEEL, CHEMICAL CLEANING AND PROCESSING, ORE PRODUCTION AND OIL WELL ACIDIFICATION [1].THE USE OF INHIBITOR IS ONE OF THE MOST PRACTICAL METHODS FOR PROTECTING METALS AGAINST CORROSION [2].RECENTLY, NATURAL PRODUCTS, FOR EXAMPLE, PUNICA GRANATUM EXTRACT [3] HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO BE EFFECTIVE IN REDUCING THE CORROSION RATE OF METALS IN ACIDIC MEDIA. THE AIM OF THIS STUDY IS TO INVESTIGATE THE ABILITY OFCOMMIPHORA MYRRHA RESIN EXUDATE AS FRIENDLY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE INHIBITORS TO PROTECT THE STEEL AGAINST CORROSION IN 2.0 M HCL SOLUTION. THE INVESTIGATION OF CORROSION PARAMETERS WAS PERFORMED BY WEIGHT LOSS, ELECTROCHEMICAL POLARIZATION MEASUREMENTS AND ELECTROCHEMICAL IMPEDANCE SPECTROSCOPY (EIS). KINETIC PARAMETERS ACTIVATION SUCH AS EA, DH*, DS* WERE EVALUATED FROM THE EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON CORROSION AND INHIBITION PROCESSES.
