Abstract

 IN THIS STUDY, FIRST ACTIVATED CHARCOAL PLATE WAS PREPARED BY PHYSICAL ACTIVATION METHOD FROM CHARCOAL SIMILAR TO THAT DESCRIBED BY ABER ET AL. [1], THEN TIO2 NANOPARTICLES WITH THE AVERAGE SIZE OF 28 NM WERE IMMOBILIZED ON THE PREPARED ACTIVATED CHARCOAL BY ELECTROPHORETIC DEPOSITION METHOD [2]. THE NATURE OF PREPARED TIO2/ACTIVATED CHARCOAL ELECTRODE WAS CHARACTERIZED BY SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY (SEM). MOST OF THE IMMOBILIZED TIO2 PARTICLES ON THE SURFACE OF THE ACTIVATED CHARCOAL ARE IN THE NANO RANGE OF 50-60 NM. THE PHOTO CATALYTIC PROCESS WAS INVESTIGATED ON DEGRADATION OF REACTIVE RED 66 BY TIO2/ACTIVATED CHARCOAL. RESULTS SHOWED THAT REMOVAL RATE INCREASED WITH DECREASING INITIAL CONCENTRATION OF DYE AND DECREASING PH. AS, DECOLORIZATION EFFICIENCY OF REACTIVE RED 66 FROM WATER WITH THE VOLUME OF 150 ML, PH 2 AND DYE INITIAL CONCENTRATION OF 10 MG L-1 DURING 90 MIN CONTACT TIME WAS 100%.
