Abstract

 DYES ARE WIDELY USED IN INDUSTRIES SUCH AS TEXTILE, RUBBER, PAPER, PLASTIC, COSMETIC ETC [1]. THESE INDUSTRIAL DISCHARGES ARE HIGHLY COLORED WITH HIGH BIOCHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND (BOD) AS WELL AS CHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND (COD) [2]. SINCE THE REMOVAL OF DYES FROM WASTEWATER IS CONSIDERED AN ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGE AND GOVERNMENT LEGISLATION REQUIRES TEXTILE WASTEWATER TO BE TREATED, THEREFORE THERE IS A CONSTANT NEED TO HAVE AN EFFECTIVE PROCESS THAT CAN EFFICIENTLY REMOVE THESE DYES [3]. IN THIS PAPER, THE USE OF LOW COST, RECYCLE WASTE AND ECO-FRIENDLY ADSORBENT HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED AS AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD FOR REPLACEMENT OF CURRENTLY EXPENSIVE METHOD FOR REMOVING DYE FROM WASTEWATER. EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT AS A FUNCTION OF CONTACT TIME, INITIAL CONCENTRATION, ADSORPTION DOSAGE AND PH. THE EQUILIBRIUM ADSORPTION OF MALACHIT GREEN DYE ON ADSORBENT WAS ANALYZED BY LANGMUIR, FREUNDLICH AND TEMKIN MODELS. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT THE FREUNDLICH MODEL PROVIDED THE BEST CORRELATION OF THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA FOR DYE AND ALSO PSEUDO-SECOND-ORDER MODEL WAS BEST APPLICABLE TO THE SORPTION DATA.
