Abstract

 IN THIS STUDY, THE EFFECT OF OZONATION ON THE SLUDGE PROPERTIES WERE INVESTIGATED. TWO BATCH REACTORS, ONE CONTROL AND ONE OZONATED WERE USED. DURING THE EXPERIMENTS, THE ORGANIC LOADING RATES (OLR) WERE 2, 3 AND 5 KGCOD.M-3.D-1, THE VOLUME OF SLUDGE FOR OZONE INJECTION WAS 300 ML AND THE OZONE CONCENTRATION WAS 0.5-2 MGO3.G-1MLSS. BASED ON THE RESULT, MLSS WERE NOT AFFECTED BY OZONATION. WHEN THE OLR WAS 2 KGCOD.M-3.D-1 AND OZONE DOSE WAS MORE THAN 1 MGO3.G-1MLSS, SOLUBLE CHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND (SCOD) INCREASED SINCE OZONE CAN DESTROY THE CELL WALLS AND RELEASE THE ORGANIC SUBSTANCES. WHEN THE OLR WAS 3 KGCOD.M-3.D-1 AND OZONE DOSE WAS LESS THAN 1.4 MGO3.G-1MLSS, SOLUBLE CHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND (SCOD) DECREASED BUT WHILE APPLYING DOSAGES HIGHER THAN 1.4 MGO3.G-1MLSS, SCOD INCREASED. IN ADDITION, IN OLR 5 KGCOD.M-3.D-1 OZONE DOSAGE MORE THAN 1.5 MGO3.G-1MLSS INCREASED THE SCOD CONTENT.
