STUDY OF NANOCLAY/POLYACRYLAMIDE SUSPENSIONS STABILITY IN ELECTROLYTE MEDIA

Abstract

 IN THIS RESEARCH, STABILITY BEHAVIOR OF LAPONITE NANOCLAY SUSPENSION IN ELECTROLYTES CONTAINING SODIUM AND CALCIUM SALTS WAS INVESTIGATED. IN ORDER TO STABILIZE THE PREPARED SUSPENSIONS, SULFONATED POLYACRYLAMIDE WAS USED AND EFFECT OF DIFFERENT PARAMETERS SUCH AS POLYMER CONCENTRATION, TEMPERATURE AND IONIC STRENGTH OF THE ELECTROLYTES WERE STUDIED. RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE STABILITY OF LAPONITE NANOPARTICLES IN ELECTROLYTE MEDIA IMPROVES IN PRESENCE OF SULFONATED POLYACRYLAMIDE BUT THEIR STABILITY DEPENDS ON POLYMER CONCENTRATION, TEMPERATURE AND IONIC STRENGTH OF ELECTROLYTE MEDIA. INCREASING OF VISCOSITY RATIO OF POLYMER/NANOPARTICLES SUSPENSION TO THE POLYMER SOLUTION, RESULTS IN MORE STABLE SUSPENSIONS IN ELECTROLYTE MEDIA. HOWEVER SUSPENSION STABILITY DECREASED WITH INCREASING THE TEMPERATURE AND IONIC STRENGTH OF ELECTROLYTE MEDIA.
