Abstract

 IN THIS WORK, CONDITIONS OF REACTION PARAMETERS OF RADIATION INDUCED GRAFTING OF 1-VINYLIMIDAZOLE ONTO POLY(ETHYLENE-CO-TETRAFLOUROETHENE) FOR ACHIEVING MAXIMUM DEGREE OF GRAFTING (G%) WERE OPTIMIZED BY GENETIC ALGORITHM. GENETIC ALGORITHM IS EXTENSIVELY USED AS A RESEARCH TOOL FOR COMPLEX OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS IN MANY BRANCHES OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING. IN THIS RESEARCH, DATA OBTAINED FROM THE RESPONSE SURFACE METHOD WAS USED FOR TRAINING NEURAL NETWORK. THEN THE DIFFERENT STRUCTURES OF NEURAL NETWORKS WITH DIFFERENT NUMBER OF HIDDEN LAYERS AND NEURONS WERE TESTED IN ORDER TO REACH AN OPTIMIZED STRUCTURE WITH THE LOWEST ERROR. MODELS OBTAINED FROM THE NEURAL NETWORK AND RESPONSE SURFACE METHOD WERE OPTIMIZED BY GENETIC ALGORITHM. THE OPTIMUM PARAMETERS TO ACHIEVE A MAXIMUM G% WERE FOUND TO BE MONOMER CONCENTRATION OF 60 VOL%, ABSORBED DOSE OF 99.5 KGY, TIME IN THE RANGE OF 27.6 H AND A TEMPERATURE OF 64.3OC.
