Abstract

 FURAN RESINS ARE USUALLY SYNTHESIZED BY CATIONIC POLYMERIZATION OF FURFURYL ALCOHOL OR OTHER FURAN MONOMERS USING MILD ACIDIC CATALYSTS. THE POLYMERIZATION RATE OF FURFURYL ALCOHOL HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE DEPENDENT ON THE PH OF THE REACTION MIXTURE ALSO THE TYPE OF ACID CATALYST USED. KINETICS OF CATIONIC POLYMERIZATION REACTION OF FURFURYL ALCOHOL, CATALYZED BY BRONSTED ACIDS IN AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS, IS REPORTED HERE BY FOLLOWING THE REACTION MIXTURE COLOR IN A RANGE OF 1.5-3.5 PH VALUES MEASURED BY UV/VIS SPECTROSCOPY.
