Abstract

 THE IMPORTANCE OF CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE (CCS) IN ORDER TO REDUCE GHG IS NOT CONCEALED. ALL NATIONS ARE TRYING TO DO THEIR BEST TO APPROACH THE GREEN PLANET STRATEGIES. TO DO SO, IRAN AS ONE OF THE HIGHEST CO2 PRODUCERS HAS STARTED TO PLAN AND ORGANIZE ITS KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNOLOGY TO APPLY CCS AS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON AND PROVEN METHODOLOGY OF CARBON REDUCTION.CCS INVOLVES CAPTURING AND SEPARATING CO2 FROM A STATIONARY SOURCE, TRANSPORTING IT TO A STORAGE LOCATION AND STORING IT IN LONG-TERM ISOLATION THE ATMOSPHERE.THIS STUDY LOOKS AT A METHODOLOGY OF GEOLOGICAL STRUCTURE SELECTION BASED ON ALL IMPORTANT CRITERIA SUCH AS DEPTH, PRESSURE, TEMPERATURE, LITHOLOGY ETC. SELECTING OPTIMAL STRUCTURES THAT MATCH THE CO2 UNDERGROUND STORAGE CRITERIA INVOLVE MANY FACTORS LIKE GEOLOGICAL, GEOTHERMAL AND HYDRODYNAMIC CONDITIONS, EMISSION SOURCE LOCATION, ECONOMIC AND LEGAL ISSUES AND ETC WHICH MAY AFFECT ONE OF THE TRAPPING MECHANISMS MENTIONED ABOVE. SELECTION OF LOCATIONS FOR STORAGE OF UNDERGROUND CO2 IS PERFORMED BASED ON SEVERAL GEOLOGICAL AND RESERVOIR CRITERIA, REGARDING CARBON DIOXIDE SPECIFIC PROPERTIES AS WELL. THESE PARAMETERS COULD BE DEPOSITION DEPTH, THICKNESS, ROCK POROSITY, PERMEABILITY, TEMPERATURE ETC.IN THIS STUDY WE VERIFY AROUND 20 ESSENTIAL CRITERIA AFFECTING THE SCREENING PROCEDURE OF TARGET GEOLOGICAL STRUCTURE.
