Abstract

 EFFECT OF PS AND PMMA BRUSHES WAS INVESTIGATED ON CRYSTALLIZATION OF PEG IN THE FRAME OF POLY (ETHYLENE GLYCOL)-BLOCK-POLYSTYRENE (PEG-B-PS) AND POLY(ETHYLENE GLYCOL)-BLOCK-POLY(METHYL METHACRYLATE) (PEG-B-PMMA) SINGLE CRYSTALS HAVING THE SAME MOLECULAR WEIGHT OF CRYSTALLINE BLOCK AND DIFFERENT MOLECULAR WEIGHTS OF AMORPHOUS BLOCKS. ON THE BASIS OF TWO DIFFERENT SORTS OF QUALITY OF EMPLOYED SOLVENT (AMYL ACETATE) AS WELL AS INTERACTION OF SINGLE CRYSTAL SUBSTRATE WITH VARIOUS BRUSHES, THE PS AND PMMA BRUSHES ADOPTED MORE EXTENDED AND PACKED PANCAKE CONFORMATIONS, RESPECTIVELY. FOR SIMILAR FEATURES, DUE TO HIGHER PRESSURE EXERTED ONTO THE SUBSTRATE COVERED BY PMMA BRUSHES RESULTED FROM MENTIONED CONFORMATION, ITS THICKNESS WAS SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN THAT OF PS ONE. EVEN FOR CONSIDERABLY LOWER MOLECULAR WEIGHT OF PMMA (MN=8700 G/MOL) IN COMPARISON TO PS (MN=14800 G/MOL), THE SUBSTRATE THICKNESS WAS LOWER AS WELL (3.65 VS 4.14 NM). MOREOVER, FOR LOWER ENTROPIC REPULSION BETWEEN PS BRUSHES, THE THICKENING OF SUBSTRATE CHAINS BENEATH THEM WAS MORE CONSPICUOUS VIA ELEVATING THE CRYSTALLIZATION TEMPERATURE.
