 THE AIM OF THE PRESENT STUDY IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF LLDPE-STARCH BIOCOMPOSITE FILMS WITH IMPROVED MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND INVESTIGATION OF EFFECTS OF ALPHA AND STARCH CONTENTS ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND BIODEGRADATION OF BIOCOMPOSITE FILMS. FOR MAKING LLDPE-STARCH FILMS, FIRST, LLDPE-STARCH BLENDS WITH DIFFERENT PERCENTAGES OF STARCH AND ALPHA WERE PRODUCED VIA MELT BLENDING METHOD THROUGH TWIN-SCREW EXTRUDER. THEN, BIODEGRADABLE FILMS WERE PREPARED FROM GRANULATED LLDPE-STARCH BLENDS USING FILM BLOWING MACHINE. MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF BIODEGRADABLE FILMS WERE CHARACTERIZED BY MEANS OF GOTECH TESTING MACHINE AND BIODEGRADATION WAS TESTED BY SOIL BURIAL METHOD. TENSILE STRENGTH OF LLDPE-STARCH FILMS REDUCED BY INCREASING THE STARCH CONTENT AND INCREASED BY THE ADDITION OF ALPHA INTO BLENDS WITH THE SAME STARCH CONTENTS. ELONGATION AT BREAK, BY INCREASING THE STARCH CONTENT, INCREASED AND REACHED AN OPTIMUM LEVEL AT 12.5% OF STARCH, THEN DECREASED. MOREOVER, THE ADDITION OF ALPHA INTO BLENDS WITH THE SAME STARCH CONTENTS LEADS TO AN INCREASE ON ELONGATION AT BREAK OF LLDPE-STARCH BLENDS. WEIGHT LOSS (%) INCREASED BY RISING THE AMOUNT OF STARCH AND AFTER ADDITION OF ALPHA INTO BLENDS WITH THE SAME AMOUNTS OF STARCH DECREASED. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE ADDITION OF ALPHA INTO LLDPE-STARCH BLENDS IMPROVES MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF BLENDS WITH AN SLIGHT DECREASE ON BIODEGRADABILITY OF BLENDS.
