Abstract

POLYSTYRENE NANOCOMPOSITES WITH ORGANOMODIFIED MONMORILONITE (CLOISITE 15A) AND BROMINATED FLAME RETARDANT.(HEXABROMOCYCLODODECAN) WERE PREPARED BY MELT BLENDING IN A TWIN SCREW EXTRUDER. THE EXFOLIATION AND DISPERSION OF PARTICLES WERE EVALUATED BY X-RAY DIFFRACTION (XRD) AND ENERGY DISPERSIVE X-RAY ANALYSIS (EDXA). FLAME RETARDANT.PROPERTIES WERE INVESTIGATED BY LIMITING OXYGEN INDEX (LOI) AND UL-94 BURNING TEST. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE GOOD PERFORMANCE IN BROMINATED NANOCOMPOSITES UPON THE HIGH VALUES IN LOI TEST. BUT, THE FLAME RETARDANCY PROPERTIES OF NANOCOMPOSITES WERE DETERIORATED IN PRESENCE OF CLAY NANOPARTICLES.
