Abstract

 THIS STUDY FOCUSES ON PREPARATION OF ULTRAFILTRATION (UF) MEMBRANES WITH LOW FOULING TENDENCY BY SURFACE MODIFICATION VIA COATING TIO2 NANOPARTICLES. FOR THIS PURPOSE, AT FIRST TIO2 NANOPARTICLES OF QUANTUM SIZE IN RUTILE CRYSTAL STRUCTURE WERE SYNTHESIZED BY HYDROTHERMAL METHOD, THEN THE POLYETHERSULFONE UF MEMBRANES WERE FABRICATED BY NON-SOLVENT-INDUCED PHASE SEPARATION TECHNIQUE AND THE MEMBRANE SURFACE WAS MODIFIED BY CORONA AIR PLASMA, FINALLY TIO2 NANOPARTICLES WERE COATED ON THE PES MEMBRANE SURFACE BY IMMERSION OF THE CORONA TREATED MEMBRANES IN THE COLLOIDAL TIO2 SOLUTION. THE FABRICATED MEMBRANES WERE USED FOR TREATMENT OF A SYNTHETIC OILY WASTEWATER. IT WAS OBSERVED THAT THE SURFACE TREATMENT AND MODIFICATION OF THE PES MEMBRANE BY ADDING HYDROPHILIC NANOPARTICLES IMPROVED THE PERMEATION FLUX OF OIL/WATER MIXTURE AND REDUCED THE FLUX DECLINE AND MEMBRANE FOULING.
