IMPROVEMENT OF THERMAL STABILITY OF CEO2 SUPPORTED ON MWNTS COATED WITH SIO2

Abstract

 IN THIS STUDY, MULTI WALL CARBON NANOTUBES (MWNTS) WERE COATED WITH SIO2 AND DECORATED WITH CEO2 NANO PARTICLES. THE NACL ON THE SURFACE OF SAMPLES WAS REMOVED WITH THE DISTILLED WATER. THE EFFECTS OF DEPOSITION PRIORITY AND WASHING OF METAL OXIDE AFTER COATING WITH SIO2 ON THE THERMAL RESISTANCE OF MWNTS WERE INVESTIGATED. THE SAMPLES WERE CHARACTERIZED AND THE RESULTS SHOWED IMPROVEMENT IN THE THERMAL STABILITY OF SAMPLES IN THE RANGE OF 70-180OC COMPARED TO UNCOATED MWNTS. IN ADDITION, THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT SAMPLES WASHED WITH DISTILLED WATER HAD HIGHER THERMAL STABILITY COMPARED TO THE UNWASHED SAMPLES. THE METAL OXIDE DEPOSITIONS DECREASED THE SURFACE AREA AND PORE VOLUME OF MWNTS, WHILE REMOVING THE DEPOSITED SALT (NACL) IMPROVED THE SURFACE AREA, PORE VOLUME, AND PORE SIZE OF MWNTS.
