Abstract

 ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR FAILURE MODES OF ESP PUMPING UNITS IN IRANIAN OFFSHORE FIELDS IS THE VARIATION OF WELL PRODUCTION CONDITION WITHOUT CARE ABOUT DOWN-HOLE PUMP PERFORMANCE AND OPERATING CONDITION. THIS WOULD RESULT IN OPERATION OF THE PUMP OUTSIDE THE PRE-DESIGNED OPERATING RANGE THAT NOT ONLY RESULTS IN HIGHER HORSEPOWER REQUIREMENT AND POWER CONSUMPTION BUT INCREASE PUMP THRUST AND VIBRATIONS THAT WOULD BRING ABOUT EARLY FAILURE OF THE PUMPING SYSTEM WHICH CONTRIBUTES TO AUGMENT CAPITAL EXPENDITURE (CAPEX) AND OPERATING EXPENDITURE (OPEX). ESP PUMPING UNITS INSTALLED ON ONE LOW PRODUCTION WELL IN X IRANIAN OFFSHORE RESERVOIR ONE YEAR AGO. PERFORMANCE INVESTIGATION OF THIS PUMP INDICATED THAT ITS OPERATION WAS OUT OF THE OPTIMUM RANGE NOW. THIS RESEARCH AIMS AT EVALUATING DIFFERENT TECHNICAL AND ECONOMICAL ASPECTS THIS WEL BY MODELING AND SIMULATING DYNAMIC WELL CONDITIONS. IN ORDER TO MATCH REAL WELL TESTING DATA WITH SIMULATED ONES, PROSPER SOFTWARE FROM IPM PACKAGE WAS UTILIZED. NEW OPTIMUM ESP DESIGN SHOWS CONSIDERABLE INCREASE IN PUMP LIFETIME AS WELL AS REDUCTION IN OPEX AND CAPEX.
