SWELLING AND RHEOLOGICAL RELATIONSHIPS OF POLYACRYLAMIDE HYDROGELS

Abstract

 AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED THROUGH A SERIES OF DESIGNED TESTS TO QUANTIFY AND TO OPTIMIZE A POLYACRYLAMIDE HYDROGEL STRUCTURE. THE HYDROGEL WAS PREPARED THROUGH THE VARIOUS CONCENTRATIONS OF SULFONATED POLYACRYLAMIDE (AN125VLM) AND CHROMIUM TRIACETATE AS A CROSSLINKER. THE TESTS WERE OUTLINED BASED ON CENTRAL COMPOSITE DESIGN (CCD) TO MEASURE AND TO EVALUATE THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SWELLING AND RHEOLOGICAL AS STRUCTURAL PROPERTIES OF THE HYDROGEL. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE OBTAINED HYDROGEL AT 26340 PPM CONCENTRATION OF COPOLYMER AND 3160 PPM CONCENTRATION OF CHROMIUM TRIACETATE, HAVING ELASTIC MODULUS OF 30 KPA AND A SALT SENSITIVITY OF 0.56, COULD BE SELECTED AS AN APPROPRIATE SAMPLE FOR FIELD OPERATIONS.
