SELECTIVE OXIDATION OF OLEFINS WITH TERT-BUTYLHYDROPEROXIDE CATALYZED BY TWO MOLYBDENUM SCHIFF BASE NANOPARTICLES

Abstract

 CONTROLLED PARTIAL OXIDATION OF HYDROCARBONS SUCH AS ALKENES IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TECHNOLOGIES IN CONVERTING OIL AND GAS PRODUCTS TO INDUSTRIAL ORGANIC CHEMICALS [1-3]. METAL CATALYSTS WERE APPLIED TO INCREASE THE RATE AND SELECTIVITY OF THE REACTIONS [4]. EPOXIDES ARE IMPORTANT RAW MATERIALS WHICH HAVE KEY ROLE IN PREPARATION OF VARIOUS KINDS OF CHEMICALS SUCH AS GLYCOLS, GLYCOL ETHERS AND ALKANOLAMINES [5]. EPOXIDATION OF OLEFINS CAN BE CATALYZED WITH DIFFERENT SCHIFF BASE COMPLEXES OF TRANSITION METALS IONS. OXYGEN ATOM OF THE OXIDANT MAY BE ACTIVATED WITH THE CATALYSTS WHICH HAVE D0 CONFIGURATION. ACTIVITY OF THE SCHIFF BASE COMPLEXES DEPEND ON THE TYPE OF SCHIFF BASE LIGAND AND ITS METAL ION AND ALSO COORDINATION GEOMETRY. SINCE CATALYTIC REACTIONS OCCUR AT THE SURFACE OF THE CATALYST, THE LARGER SURFACE AREA OF THE CATALYST CAN IMPROVE THE REACTION YIELD. AS A RESULT, CATALYSTS IN THE NANO SCALE CAN INCREASE THE RATE OF REACTION SIGNIFICANTLY. IN PRESENT STUDY, TWO SCHIFF BASE LIGANDS (H2LX, X=1,2) AND THEIR DIOXOMOLYBDENUM NANO PARTICLES WERE SYNTHESIZED AND CHARACTERIZED ON THE BASIS OF IR, 1H AND 13C NMR, UV-VIS SPECTROSCOPY, FE-SEM AND DLS. THE CATALYTIC ACTIVITY OF THE PREPARED CATALYSTS IN THE OXIDATION OF THE DIFFERENT OLEFINS HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED. ALSO, THE EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT PARAMETERS IN THE OXIDATION REACTION SUCH AS SOLVENT, MOLAR RATIO OF CATALYST AND SUBSTRATE WERE DISCUSSED.
