Abstract

OLEFIN EPOXIDATION IS AN IMPORTANT REACTION FOR THE PRODUCTION OF EPOXIDES AS CHEMICAL INTERMEDIATES TO AFFORD USEFUL CHEMICALS [1]. THE USE OF TRANSITION METAL COMPLEXES AS CATALYSTS IN ORGANIC SYNTHESIS IS AN EXCITING FIELD OF RESEARCH, AND SUCH CATALYSTS ARE EXTENSIVELY UTILIZED IN A WIDE RANGE OF AREAS. IN GENERAL, IN THE PRESENCE OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE, METALS FORM OXIDO– PEROXIDO COMPLEXES, WHICH CAN BE USED IN THE SYNTHESIS OF A NUMBER OF FINE CHEMICALS [2]. MOST OXIDATION REACTIONS INVOLVING MOLECULAR OXYGEN AND METAL COMPLEXES PROCEED VIA INNER-SPHERE OR ADDITION–ELIMINATION MECHANISMS. OXIDO–PEROXIDO COMPLEXES OF TRANSITION METAL ARE IMPORTANT INTERMEDIATES FOR THIS TYPE OF ACTIVATION, SO INTEREST IN THEM AS CATALYSTS IN OXIDATION REACTIONS HAS INCREASED [1, 2].
