SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF SOME TRANSITION METAL COMPLEXES WITH SCHIFF BASE DERIVED FROM N-AMINO RHODANINE

Abstract

 SCHIFF BASES DERIVED FROM N-AMINO RHODA NINE ARE KNOWN TO POSS BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES SUCH AS ANTIBACTERIAL, ANTIVIRAL ]1,2[. IN THIS STUDY, A SCHIFF BASE LIGAND (E)-3-(2-METHOXY BENZYLIDENE AMINO)-2-THIOXOTHIAZOLIDIN-4-ONE, WAS PREPARED FROM N-AMINO RHODA NINE AND 2-METHOXY BENZ ALDEHYDE, IN ETHANOL-CHLOROFORM (1:1) AS SOLVENT. IN THE NEXT STEP, THEIR COMPLEXES WERE SYNTHESIZED BY MIXING THE DESIRED METAL CHLORIDE (COCL2.6H2O, CUCL2.2H2O, NICL2.6H2O) WITH THE PREPARED SCHIFF BASE LIGAND.THESE COMPOUNDS WERE CHARACTERIZED BY FT-IR, 1H-NMR, AND ELEMENTAL ANALYSIS. THE ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF THE COMPLEXES WAS CHECKED USING ESCHERICHIA COLI AS A GRAM-NEGATIVE, AND STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS, AND BACILLUS SUBTILIS AS GRAM-POSITIVE BACTERIA [2]. MOREOVER, THE ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY OF THESE COMPOUNDS WERE CHECKED BY ASPERGILLUS NIGAR, AND CANDIDA ALBICANS. DIAMETER OF INHIBITION ZONE (MM) INCLUDING THE DISC DIAMETER WAS MEASURED FOR EACH TREATMENT. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT THE PREPARED COMPOUND, SHOWED HIGH ACTIVITY AGAINST ORGANISMS USED IN THE STUDY.
