AN IMPROVED SAFT EOS TO PREDICT THE THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF PURE COMPOUNDS

Abstract

 AN IMPROVED STATISTICAL ASSOCIATING FLUID THEORY EQUATION OF STATE (ISAFT EOS) IS DEVELOPED FOR ASSOCIATING AND NON-ASSOCIATING COMPOUNDS. THE NEW EOS HAS THE SAME NUMBER OF ADJUSTABLE PARAMETERS AS THE ORIGINAL SAFT EQUATION. IN THE PROPOSED EQUATION, THE HARD SPHERE TERM OF THE ORIGINAL SAFT EOS IS REPLACED BY A NEW HARD SPHERE TERM PROPOSED RECENTLY BY GHOTBI AND VERA .THIS EQUATION REPRESENTS THE COMPRESSIBILITY FACTOR AND THE VIRIAL COEFFICIENTS OF ONE-COMPONENT HARD SPHERE FLUID AS ACCURATELY AS CALCULATED BY THE CARNAHAN-STARLING (CS) HARD SPHERE EOS, BUT CONTRARY TO THE CS EOS, IT SATISFIES THE CLOSE-PACKED LIMIT.THE PARAMETERS OF THE PROPOSED EOS ARE ADJUSTED BY MINIMIZING THE DEVIATIONS BETWEEN THE EXPERIMENTAL AND CALCULATED SATURATED LIQUID VOLUMES AND VAPOR PRESSURES FOR DIFFERENT NONASSOCIATING AND ASSOCIATING COMPOUNDS .THE RESULT SHOW THAT THE PREDICTED VALUES OF THE SATURATED LIQUID VOLUME AND THE VAPOR PRESSURE FOR NON-ASSOCIATING AND ASSOCIATING PURE COMPOUND IN A WIDE RANGE OF TEMPERATURE FROM TRIPLE POINT TO CRITICAL POINT USING THE PROPOSED EQUATION, REPRESENT BETTER THE EXPERIMENTAL VALUES IN COMPARISON WITH THOSE CALCULATED USING THE ORIGINAL SAFT EOS OR THE SIMPLIFIED SAFT EQUATION. IN ADDITION, THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE PROPOSED EQUATION MORE ACCURATELY THE CRITICAL PROPERTIES OF PURE COMPOUNDS IN COMPARISON WITH THE OTHER STUDIED EQUATIONS.
