Abstract

 THE ROLE OF STARCH AQUOUS SOLUTION ON DRAG REDUCTION WAS INVESTIGATED BASED ON THE EXTENT OF PRESSURE DROP FOR CIRCULATING THE SOLUTION IN A CLOSED LOOP. THE RESULTS SHOWED PRESSURE DROP DECREASE BY RAISING STARCH CONCENTRATION. FURTHERMORE, IN A CONSTANT STARCH CONCENTRATION, THE POLYMER EFFICIENCY WAS DETERIORATED BY CLOSED LOOP FLOW TIME. IN ADDITION, A REGULAR KIND OF DETERIORATION WAS OBSERVED FOR MEDIUM MOLECULAR WEIGHT STARCH WHILE ITS HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT COUNTERPART SHOWED ANOMOULOS BEHAVIOR. THIS WAS ATTRIBUTED TO THE STARCH MOLECULES AGGREGATION AND FRACTURE: CHAIN FRACTURE VERSUS AGGREGATE DISSOCIATION.
