Abstract

 THE EFFECTS OF THE MICROORGANISMS AND THEIR BIO-PRODUCTS TO FORM A WIDE RANGE OF IMPERVIOUS BARRIERS AND FOR ENHANCEMENT OF OIL RECOVERY IS ALREADY WELL DOCUMENTED. PLUGGING IN POROUS MEDIA BY BIOMASS AND BIOPOLYMERS HAS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THESE ISSUES. THE PRESENT WORK AIMED AT INVESTIGATING THE EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE AND SALINITY ON ABSOLUTE PERMEABILITY REDUCTION BY TWO KINDS OF BACTERIA: BACILLUS SUBTILIS AND CLOSTRIDIUM PERFRINGENS. THE EXPERIMENTAL APPARATUS WAS A HORIZONTALLY MOUNTED SAND-PACK COLUMN; THE ABSOLUTE PERMEABILITY OF SAND-PACK WAS MEASURED BY USING UNSTEADY PERMEABILITY MEASUREMENT METHOD BEFORE AND AFTER INJECTION OF BACTERIA. THE SYSTEM TEMPERATURE WAS CHANGED FROM 40OC TO 70OC AND SALINITY FROM 0 TO 6000 PPM NACL. RESULTS SHOW THAT BACILLUS SUBTILIS HAS BETTER POTENTIAL FOR POROUS MEDIA PLUGGING. MAXIMUM REDUCTION IN PERMEABILITY BY BACILLUS SUBTILIS WAS OCCURRED AT 40OC AND 1%OF SALINITY.
