EFFECT OF METHANOL CONCENTRATION ON THE PERFORMANCE OF PASSIVE DIRECT METHANOL FUEL CELLS

Abstract

 THE USE OF VARIOUS METHANOL CONCENTRATIONS, INCLUDING 1M, 2M, 3M AND 4M, IN A PASSIVE DIRECT METHANOL FUEL CELL (DMFC) WAS INVESTIGATED EXPERIMENTALLY. IT WAS SHOWN THAT PASSIVE DMFC PERFORMANCE REDUCED WITH LOW METHANOL CONCENTRATION (1M) BECAUSE OF LOWER METHANOL DIFFUSION. ALSO HIGH METHANOL CONCENTRATION (4M) COULD REDUCE CELL EFFICIENCY BECAUSE OF HIGH METHANOL CROSSOVER AND MIXED POTENTIAL. MAXIMUM CELL PERFORMANCE WAS ACHIEVED BY 3M METHANOL.
