Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate one of the family issues called Couple Burnout among dual-career couples and its relationship to Career Burnout of the nurses. The sample was 70 female nurses married for at least two years and had at least on child. Instruments used were Couple Burnout Measure (CBM) by Pines (1996), and Maslash Burnout Inventory (MBI) by Maslash (2001).Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation) were used to analyze the data.Inferential statistics (pearson correlation coefficient and regression) were used for testing the hypotheses. The result indicated that there were significant correlation between couple burnout, emotional exhaustion, and depersonalization (intensity). There is significant correlation between couple burnout and all of the four components of the burnout syndromes (intensity and frequency). There were the significant relationship between the work times and couple burnout. There was significant correlation between the number of children and emotional exhaustion. The results indicated that emotional exhaustion can predict couple burnout.
