Abstract

Introduction: In J 999 the effect of Ramadan fasting on anthropometries parameters and blood lipid and lipoproteins was studied in Shahid Madani Hospital. The results revealed that at the end of Ramadan comparing the beginning of it, serum lipid parameters such as cholesterol LDL, total" cholesterol and Triglycerid all reduced and reduction was maintained one month after Ramadan. Whether such reductions were as a result of nutritional diet or Ramadan fasting, this study conducted to evaluate effects of Ramadan fasting on two separate hyperlipidemic groups with or without observing nutritional diet.Material & Methods: 38 hyperlipidemic healthy men selected voluntarily and divided into two groups, group one 22 men with low fat, low calorie diet and group two J6 men without any special diet interference. Anthropometries parameters and laboratory tests including total cholesterol, cholesterol LDL, HDL and triglycerid were measured in 4 times including 3 weeks before Ramadan. first week. last week and one month afterwards To evaluate nutritional composition 12 times list of 24 hour - dietary recali obtained from all individuals. Results: Results revealed that only Triglycerid in both groups reduced in the beginning of Ramadan comparing to 3 weekS before. During Ramadan with reduction of 300 Kcal/day in comparison to before Ramadan in group one no changes were seen regarding anthropometric parameters and serum lipids.conclusion: it seems that effect of Ramadan fasting on anthropomctric factors and serum lipids may be is closely related to the nutritional diet. It would be necessary to omit at least one meal or reduce energy taking to 500kcal or more.
