Abstract

Introduction: Abstract concepts are widely used in clinical situations especially in the domain of psychiatry. For example, unconscious self and the "defensive mechanisms" are among the concepts which are not observable and are thought to the students. This study is designed to clarify how abstract concepts can be thought by means of simulation techniques.Literature review: the relevant studies indicated that simulation is closely intertwined with matching process in which the more a concept is visually comprehensible, the easier it is to recognize the similarities between the concept and its related subject matter.Discussion: simulation enables the students to make a practical structure in which they can bring the concepts closer to the reality and make them more understandable. The main part of learning occurs through vision. The descriptive and diagrammatic simulation enable the students to learn concepts which they cannot be taught verbally.
