Abstract

It has been allegedly and implicitly claimed that most of the developments in the field of linguistics are rooted in the endurances of just western scholars throughout the history. Traces of such assumptions can be best traced in the reviews written on the literature of the more recent branches of linguistics such as pragmatics and DISCOURSE ANALYSIS.To challenge this assumption, this study attempts to compare linguistic claims with some of the principles used by Islamic scholars to interpret Quran and Sunnah for inferring the RELIGIOUS RULES from these resources. 'Elme Alfaze Osule Feqh' has provided such principles for Shiite scholars since about ten centuries age.The results show that some of these principles correspond, to a great extent. with the linguistic ideas that have been developed within the two recent centuries in the western world. This might encourage fair reviewers to keep an eye out for these Islamic studies as the starting points of some linguistic theories and disciplines. Of course, it should be asserted that modern linguistic studies have some privileges over' elme osule' ones, among which one may refer to having theoretical framework and scientific classification and terminology.
