Abstract

Choriocarcinoma is a curable malignancy that occurs after TERM PREGNANCY in approximately 50% of cases, and prognosis of this form of gestational trophoblastic neoplasm (GTN) is poor. The earliest onset of CHORIOCARCINOMA after TERM PREGNANCY was reported 3 weeks after delivery in one study, but in the current study, CHORIOCARCINOMA was diagnosed 2 weeks after delivery. In 2004, a 28 year-old woman (gravidity 2, parity 2) delivered a healthy infant at term. Frequent episodes of vaginal bleeding occurred after 10 days of delivery. On admission to Vali-Asr Hospital, she had lesions in the lungs. The pretreatment b-HCG level was 84000 mIU/ml and her score was 8 (high risk group). The EMA/CO regimen was administered as first line chemotherapy and patient achieved complete remission after 7 courses of therapy.Although early onset postpartum hemorrhage is mostly due to complications of delivery, but GESTATIONAL TROPHOBLASTIC DISEASE (GTD) should be considered and assessment of b-HCG could be of help in the early diagnosis of GTD.
