Abstract

Study of the problematic aspects of heavy hydrocarbon deposition has been of a great priority for the last several decades due to its unclear sources. Oil companies have spent a huge effort to develop software in order to predict this phenomenon. One of the difficulties in GAS INJECTION process is the ASPHALTENE PRECIPITATION for which the value should be estimated beforehand. In this paper, the amount of asphaltene deposition is determined using sweet (dry) and sour (heavy) GAS INJECTION. Several samples were tested in a slim tube using different pressure levels while the temperature was kept constant at 237oF. In these experiments, the amount of asphaltene deposited in the porous media was measured and the effects of the asphaltene deposition on the PERMEABILITY of porous media are investigated. Experimental results showed that sour GAS INJECTION causes less ASPHALTENE PRECIPITATION compared to sweet GAS INJECTION. Moreover, the ASPHALTENE PRECIPITATION was decreased when the pressure was higher than the minimum miscibility pressure.
