Sulfathiazole, a sulfa drug with molecular formula C9H9N3O2S2, known as antibacterial agent in pharmaceutical industries and used for treatment of bacterial infections in human beings and veterinary in wide range.
This final report includes: sulfathiazole introduction, study of synthetic chains, methods of synthesis in laboratory, modification of reaction conditions, analysis and discussion. In selected synthetic chain, 2-aminothiazole and acetyl sulfanilyl chloride with molecular ratio of 1:2 are used in acetone/water as solvent. This reaction completed at 65oC in 2 hours with yield of 53%. In an innovation in this report, a-Picoline was used as solvent. In this method 2-aminothiazole and acetyl sulfanilyl chloride with molecular ratio of 1:1 are used in a-Picoline as solvent. This reaction completed at 65oC in 2 hours with yield of 67%. Sulfathiazole synthesised by alkaline hydrolysis of acetyl sulfathiazole at 65oC in 2 hours with yield of 83%.
