In this research work, the Isothermal reduction of oxide pellet made of Sangan iron was investigated in temperature range of 900-1100oC, using Tabas coal as reductant. Parametric study was performed and the effects of some factors such as temperature, time, particle size of iron ore fines, size of oxide pellet and addition of BaCO3 on reduction process were investigated.
It was found that the rate of reduction, at first step of reduction process, and total reduction degree increased with increasing of temperature. In addition, the total reduction degree decreased with increasing of the size of oxide pellet. Based on the results of this study, the rate of reduction at first step of the process decreased with increasing of particle size of iron ore fines, while at next steps, increases.
The rate of reduction reaction and the total reduction degree were also considerably increased with addition of BaCO3 when the reduction process was performed at 1100oC.
Finally, the kinetics study was performed and the activation energy of reduction reaction was calculated it was found that, the activation energy decreased from 159 to 133 KJ/mol by increasing of BaCO3 content from 0% to 5%.
