Phyethrum is a permanent plant that grows to the height of 50 to 60 cm. it could originally be found in Dalmatia, Herzegovina and Montenegro, but today it can be found in many other places by, achiving the suitable condition for its growth.
Pyrether powder is directly used for repulsion of insects. It is also used in medicin and mostly in veterinary as a vermicide.
The major component of pyrethrum flower that has insecticide property, consists of 6 typs of esters. These esters, pyrethrin I, pyrethrin II, Jasmoline I, Jasmoline II, Cinerine I, and Cinerine II, altogether are called pyrethrin.
Different procedures of extraction id the lab scale have been investigated in this project by soxhlet and leaching using several solvents such as chloroform, petroleum ether, odourless Kerosene and AW-406. Although chloroform extract showed the maximum yeild of pyrethrin, it is not recomended for industrial scale because of being expensive. Consequently, AW-406 being a cheap solvent and being produced in Iran, is recommended, however it showed the lower yield of pyrethrin.
Moreover, as pyrethrin extract is used as an insecticide substance, it dos not need the purification process, and the total extract can be used in insecticide substances.
