On the basis of WHO’s reports, more than 10 percent of adults are involved by mental disorders. Medical students have greater risk for developing mental disorders due totheir special situation (such as high stress and lengthy educational period).
Objectives: Mental health assessment in medical students and its relationship to factors including sex, marital status and financial supply.
Materials and Methods: 602 medical students (55.7% male & 44.3% female) in different educational grades from Tehran universities have selected by stratified random sampling (based on universities). All study subjects completed General Health Questionnaire–28 (GHQ-28) and also an inventory designed for collecting data regarding other factors.
Results: Mental health disorders prevalence was as high as 40.7%. Sex and self-attitude to economic status have significant relation with medical students Mental Health.
Conclusion: This study showed that the prevalence of mental disorders in medical students is greater than normal population, which should be considered in the future researches.
