The main purpose of this project is devoted to producing the modified sulfur composites using appropriate Nano fillers. Sulfur and modified sulfur are selected as the matrix and nano-silica, nano-titana and nano-clay particles are selected as filler. Direct Mixing Method techniques used for making composites and all of the composites were prepared in molten sulfur phase without solvent. Cyclopentadiene, styrene or methyl styrene reacted with sulfur to give modified sulfur (plasticized sulfur). Modification of sulfur is done in order to avoid problems due to the cooling of molten sulfur allotrope.
Various types of nano-sized fillers Contain Sicicay Titania, montmorillomite were added to the sulfur or modified sulfur matrix to produce desirable composite. Nano fillers was selected based on various criteria, including price and availability, the likelihood of a positive effect of particles on improving the properties of composite, the ease of mixing process, and maintaining the size of the nanoparticles in the matrix. The aim of this work is producing the modified sulfur composites as a resistance coating against corrosion, so, it should be finally reached that the combination of organic materials and Nano-fillers give appropriate properties to the composite as a coating. In addition to the importance of Nano filler type, surface modification method and its entry into the viscous sulfur matrix composites are important in achieving optimum properties. It is expected that addition of the Nano filler in the composites result in with better physical and mechanical properties compared with plasticized sulfur with micro fillers. Studying on the mechanical properties (compressive strength, flexural and tensile), and thermal and morphological studies showed that Filler particles improved properties of sulfur and modified sulfur.
