Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the measure of agreement between the result of hearing screening at workplace and the result of audiometry at audiometric clinic.
Methods: Commercial drivers of east Azarbaijan province undergo hearing screening at workplace to determine their qualification to receive health certificate for driving commercial vehicle. Some of them who had hearing loss in any frequencies were invited to undergo a diagnostic audiometric test inside a soundproof audiometric booth at audiometric clinic.
Results: For more than 40 dB average loss of hearing at 500, 1000, and 2000 frequencies, sensitivity and specificity of hearing screening at workplace was 67 % (CI 95%=29 %-100 %) and 89% (CI 95%=85% - 93%), respectively. The kappa statistic was good at frequencies of 2-6 Khz.
Conclusion: Pure tone audiometry at worksite is valuable tool for screening of both high and low frequency hearing loss with regard to its low cost.
