In this research Bone Matrix Gelatin (BMG) implanted into the muscle tissue, histological were then investigated on days, 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, 25 after implantation.
Firstly, BMG prepared as described by Urist et in 1973:2 mg of BMG were implanted under sterile conditions into the right rectus abdominis muscle of the Sprague- Dawley strain male rats with the age of 6 to 8 weeks.
A similar amount of BMG that had been heated at 150o for 15 minutes was also implanted into the left rectus abdominis muscle. The animals were sacrified, the right and left rectus abdominis were considered as experimental and control groups respectively.
In day 5 after implantation, a specific calcification that is named Acellular Mineral Deposition = AMD was found near the implanted MBG in the experimental group. BMG induced the formation of cartilage, woven bone and marrow in muscle tissue by day 7, 10, and 15 of its implantation respectively.
In contrast to these results, heated BMG induced no formation of cartilage and new bone in any specimens.
In conclusion, the present investigation indicated that BMG has osteoinductive proteins or Bone Morphogenetic protein = BMP and may use for the repair of bone defects in future.
