Abstract: 

Ghalat Shirkhooni is located on Northwest corner of Rafsanjan I Geological sheet with 30 o 24´ 54˝ N latitude and 55 o 34´ 49˝ E longitude. Lithological sequence in this area is volcanics (basalt,andesite to trachyandesite and basaltic trachyandesite) and pyroclastics (commonly crystal tuff and lithic tuff) of tholeiitic and calcalkaline magmatic series. Sedimentary units of area are limestone and evaporate. Copper mineralization occurs in two different locations. These are characterized by leaching of molybdenum from surficial environment. Factors such as the local absence of pyrite and the abundance of carbonate vienlets caused neutralization of the supergene solution. Therefore an alkaline and oxidized supergene environment was dominated in this area. The existence of illite which is formed in alkaline condition, and the abundance of malachite indicate the alkaline nature of the supergene environment. Supergene environment was also affected by other factors such as opographic features, development of evaporites. The model for ore genesis is proposed as Iron-Oxide-Copper-Gold (IOCG) veins type mineralization in the area. Some characteristic features such as the ore mineral assemblage (hematite, magnetite and chalcopyrite), the host rock type, rock assemblage and magmatic series, alteration types (sericitization, silicification and replacement of plagioclase by hematite), tectono-structural environment (magmatic arc associated with strike slip fault), structural control and shallow depth of ore mineralization (volcano- sedimentary environment), the absence of ore-related intrusive bodies all point to a similarity with IOCG type deposits. Trace element associated with copper is silver (3-20ppm). However, dissimilarities with IOCG deposits are the low grade of gold and the reverse paragenetic sequence.
