Abstract: 

Permo-Triassic Boundary (PTB) in the Persian Gulf (South Pars Field) includes the uppermost Permian strata (upper Dalan formation) and the lower most Triassic strata (lower Kangan formation). The paleontological evidences indicate a stratigraphic gap at this boundary (Dorashamian). Microfacies analysis and petrographic evidences are indicating domination of a carbonate ramp platform in this basin in the PTB. Meteoric diagenesis at this boundary is documented by sedimentological, diagenetic and isotopic studies. The δ18O and δ13C values show an important depletion in the PTB. δ13C depletion is ascribed to seawater secular variations, while low δ18O values could be due to extensive meteoric diagenesis during sea-level fall in the PTB. The δ13C depletion in the PTB could be explained by secular variations in the carbon cycle at the end of Permian period due to mass extinction and reduction in primary productivity.
