Abstract: 

The silisiclastic deposits of the Jeirud formation (Upper Devonian) in Northeast of Tehran (Mobark-Abad valley, 35 o 47´ 10’’ N, 51 o 58´ 25’’ E) have been studied for recognition of their depositional environments. These deposits overlay the Mila Formation over an paraconformity, and are underlain by dark-gray shales and limestones of Mobarak Formation that related to marine transgression. The present study indicates that the Jeirud Formation is deposited in microtidal wave dominated estuarine and open marine environments. Estuarine deposits include inner part (meandering river facies), middle part (sandstone layers and colored shales) and outer part (beach and inlet sandstone facies). Open marine deposits include fossiliferuos sandstones with trace fossil, black shales, phosphatic layers and storm deposits. This Formation, in general, is deposited during marine transgression.
