Abstract: 

ONE OF THE IMPORTANT PARAMETERS IN WAVEGUIDES IS THE ELECTROMAGNETIC LOSS. THERE ARE MANY METHODS TO EVALUATE THIS LOSS THEORETICALLY. THE EFFECTIVE INDEX METHOD IN SOLVING HELMHOLTZ EQUATION IS ONE OF THE FAMILIAR WAYS IN MODELING THE OPTICAL LOSSES IN WAVEGUIDES. IN THIS PAPER, THE OPTICAL LOSS IN CHALCOGENIDE OPTICAL CHANNEL WAVEGUIDES HAS BEEN CALCULATED AT DIFFERENT WAVELENGTHS AND IT IS SHOWN THAT THERE IS A DECREASE IN THE LOSS VALUE AS THE WAVELENGTH INCREASES. THE RESULTS ARE COMPATIBLE WITH EXPERIMENTAL OBSERVATIONS.
