Citric acid fermentation was studied with different species of Yarrowia lipolytica using hydrocarbons. Among four species studied Y. lipolytica NCIM 3472 produced 0.29 kg/m3 citric acid. This species produced 0.38 kg/m3 citric acid with initial hydrocarbon concentration of 25 kg/m3. Attempt to increase citric acid production by batch-fed mode of fermentation did not improve the production.
