Abstract: 

AT PRESENT, THE ELECTRIC POWER INDUSTRY IS UNDERGOING CONSIDERABLE CHANGE WITH RESPECT TO STRUCTURE, OPERATION, AND REGULATION. WITH RESPECT TO THIS CHANGE, UTILITIES CAN EXPECT TO SEE INCREASING AMOUNTS OF DISTRIBUTED GENERATION (DG) ON THEIR DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS. THIS DG CAN HAVE POSITIVE IMPACTS SUCH AS VOLTAGE SUPPORT AND DEFERRED CAPITAL INVESTMENTS, BUT CAN ALSO HAVE NEGATIVE IMPACTS ON PROTECTION COORDINATION AND VOLTAGE REGULATION. RELIABILITY IS AN AREA WHERE DG CAN HAVE POSITIVE IMPACT. THIS PAPER PRESENTS A METHOD BASED ON FMEA TO MODELING AND EVALUATION OF EFFECTS OF DG ON RELIABILITY INDICES USING PREDICTIVE RELIABILITY ASSESSMENT TOOLS. EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PROPOSED METHODOLOGY IS SHOWN BY A NUMBER OF CASE STUDIES WERE PERFORMED ON A REAL MV DISTRIBUTION FEEDER WITH RADIAL STRUCTURE.
